City economies

Generating investment for a sustainable economy

There is now a consensus that England's major cities and city regions will play a fundamental role in economic recovery.  What new approaches to investment and financial tools can we use to ensure a fast but sustainable economic trajectory for these important places, what lessons can we learn from elsewhere and how can we plan for a different future?  Providing infrastructure, climate change retrofitting and ensuring positive social outcomes are massive challenges during a financial and funding crisis where capital is increasingly hard to access.

This event will look at how to create a more sustainable economic model for cities and city regions in England, applying tools such as Accelerated Development Zones, and other innovative financing mechanisms.
